I absolutely love building houses with Broadway Christian Church and 1Mission. It is every perfect mission trip wrapped up in one package – it’s inexpensive; it’s close; it’s only 3 days. You get the enjoyment of, literally, building a house and God’s kingdom at the same time. You get fellowship and comradery with the family, the community, 1Mission staff, AND your fellow builders. You get to be a part of something way bigger than yourself. And finally, you get to see the faces of the family light up when given the keys to THEIR new HOME. You get to be a part of their new journey in life.
This trip always inspires me to be more involved in the church community. The way we work together as a team helps me to see how we can impact the lives of others when we put their needs ahead of our own. It’s a true blessing to bless the lives of others in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Lord.
My life was changed in those three days. After seeing the lifestyle of the Mexican culture, my wants-versus-needs attitude has changed. To see their gratitude and tears over getting a small home with no plumbing or electricity has changed my perspective on stuff. I am thankful for what I have.
This was my second time going to Rocky Point to build a house with 1Mission. We built a home for the Luna family. They are a young couple and they have a little boy – Santos, Dayana, and 3-year-old Adrian. It is incredible to see a house go up in just 2½ days that provides this family with a place to call their home. We are reminded when we go that we are not just building a home. We are building a community. I’m so blessed and thankful to see the work that God is doing through 1Mission.
